1.
There will be no peace on earth For you or me & there will be no peace on earth For you or me We lay our bodies down Upon the hallowed ground Unburden us & kindly let us be

It Descends 03:20
Overhead, it does descend A darkness, an apparition Like a mask for the night, a razor the wind We are cut & blind, we cannot win Underfoot, under chain, lash & boot We are prisoners now, of our own doing & try as we might, we can’t win that fight We are running now, running away Cast over, caught up in the wind Forgotten, forsaken Lost now, & left amongst the ruins Abandoned, yet awakened
4.
Washed out, blacked out, in the nightA pause, an interceding To falter now, yet carry onTo rise again, a redeeming On foot, through thorns, on barren rockTo the trees as they receive me Without fear of future nowAs the ground holds firm beneath me Home again − I will never be Freer than − As far as one can see Forward then − To be set free Amongst all men − I must surely be On my own
5.
Rested now, awake on the forest floor Give me strength from the air I breathe Reborn at once, up from the underbrush Give me life from the air I breathe As I rise, as I walk again As my feet touch upon the ground I see my life flash before my eyes As it crumbles to pieces right in my hands Hallelujah − As I Live & Breathe Hallelujah − As I Live & Breathe Here I lay my Here I lay my claim Here I claim my Here I claim my life, I die As I rise, as I wake again Feel the sun of a newborn day I hold my heart, I hold my hope again As it falls to pieces right before my eyes Hallelujah − As I Live & Breathe Hallelujah − As I Live & Breathe
6.
As bold as a lion As lost as the lamb As wicked as any man alive A man alive, a man alone As wide as the river Faster than flame As wild as any beast alive & man the same, & man the same Man alive, man alone Your blood turns to mud & sand Your body to stone To live your life as a lie To some great unknown Oh, man alive, man alone As high as the mountains As low to the ground As wicked as any man alive A man alive, a man alone Flawed beyond measure Numbered, named, set free As wild as any beast alive A man like me, a man like me Man alive, man alone Your blood turns to mud & sand Your body to stone To live your life as a lie To some great unknown Oh, man alive, man alone
7.
By the glory of the morning light By mystery of moon at night By any means to be unbound By any chance a higher ground On my word By the light of the Northern Star On my life It’s a hell of a climb but I’ve come so far By the grace of God By the way of the gun By hook or crook, what’s done is done By any stretch to be set free By the skin of your teeth, on your hands & knees On my word By the light of the Northern Star On my life It’s a hell of a climb but I’ve come so far
8.
Dreamer arise, awake & go Take up your worries now Your little bundle of woe Hang it from the mountain high & leave it there, leave it far behind Brother, you’d better stand by me Some fare fine but the other half die On the other side of the mountain & sister you’ll never, so stay away It takes much more than the will to survive On the other side of the mountain Beyond here, I’m not so sure We’ll tell in time all the trouble we find On the other side of the mountain So farewell, fare thee well Once I’ve gone I will not soon return From the other side of the mountain
9.
Part of me, you are part of me All the air I breathe No peace Part of me, you are part of me All the love I need No peace Part of me, you are part of me All the blood I bleed No peace Part of me, you are part of me All the air I breathe No peace There will be no peace On earth for you or me We lay our bodies down Upon the hallowed ground Unburden us & kindly set us free & there will be no peace On earth for you or me We lay our bodies down Upon the hallowed ground Unburden us & kindly let us be There will be no peace On earth for you or me We lay our bodies down Upon the hallowed ground Unburden us & kindly set us free Part of me, you are part of me All the air I breathe No peace Part of me, you are part of me All the blood I bleed No peace Part of me, you are part of me All the love I need No peace

about

In their second full-length offering, The Angelus tells a foreboding and despairing narrative through carefully interwoven compositions of dark hymnal slowcore. Embroidered by emotional intensity and hopeful fortitude, the North Texas trio takes the listener on a soaring journey that is visceral and melancholic in its uncompromising beauty. This album is captivating and rewarding. The sonic prose herein is, indeed, a telling of coming times - There Will Be No Peace.

Pressed on 200-gram, translucent beer & mustard yellow wax and features heavyweight die-cut jackets with sleek printed innersleeves. This is an album that was truly meant for vinyl.

LP available through Tofu Carnage Records, CD through Basement Avatar Records.

"At once crushing and soaring, visceral and divine, The Angelus return with their most inspired effort to date, a whelming juxtaposition of distorted beauty with melancholic pop that transcends territory echoing at its most aggressive, Neurosis, and at its most graceful, a western-tinged incarnation of The xx, while maintaining the integrity of being uniquely their own. This album is marked with grit, resounding experience, and all that is human...a tender document of the soul. From "Thunderbolts I Scatter" to its title track, "There Will Be No Peace" is a landmark work from one of the hardest working bands of our time." - R. Loren (PYRAMIDS/ Handmade Bird Records)

"This is music delivered from the heart, a broken one perhaps but one swollen with the experiences of love, loss and grief. Texas music has been important to me for many years, because within the often painful battles between God, devotion and man, that inhabit these songs, there is a core of hope & faith. A band that I am certainly grateful for. "
- Simon Raymonde (Cocteau Twins / Bella Union)

"The Angelus: There Will Be No Peace, is a haunting mix of lush and powerful drum/bass/guitar foundation with Emil's beautiful croon over top. In uncertain times, this album makes the forecast of 'No Peace' seem palatable as long as it sounds like this!" - Eric Pulido (Midlake)

"Yet another fine collection of prayers on fire for the dead and dying gods sent up from Emil Rapstine's growing tower of song via The Angelus.
They descend, scatter, and intercede. Hallelujahs abound for there will be no peace. As I live and breathe, praise Him indeed, at least for these. Amen & Godspeed!" - Josh T Pearson (Lift To Experience)

about

The Angelus Dallas, Texas

Pretty. Bleak. Those words encapsulate the sweeping and majestic sounds that build like storm systems and burst into bone-rattling sonic downpours that the Dallas, TX trio The Angelus summon up.
